Garcia Earns CPL’s Golden Boot

Akeem Garcia (Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago)  has earned the Canadian Premier League’s Golden Boot award, leaving the Island Games as the Canadian Premier League’s top scorer.

The HFX Wanderers FC star finished his campaign on Prince Edward Island with six goals scored in 11 games (0.54 G/GP), improving his goals per game rate from his debut season in 2019 where he scored seven goals in 24 games (0.29 G/GP).

According to FotMob, Akeem Garcia scored all six of his goals with his right foot, with five of them coming from inside the box. Garcia finished the Island Games with perfect discipline, being shown zero cards from the officials.

The Canadian Premier League awards are carved by artists from Kinngait, Nunavut. In particular, the Golden Boot award is created by artist Pitseolak Qimirpik.

Like the hunter, true goal scorers are courageous and fearless in the hunt. They need to be versatile and adaptive no matter the conditions.

Garcia becomes the second ever Golden Boot recipient, joining former Forge FC star Tristan Borges. Whereas Borges scored 13 goals over the course of 27 games, Garcia only had 11 games to score a remarkable six.

The Canadian Premier League will announce the remaining award winners at a date TBD. Halifax are the only club with nominees in every category.

Christian Oxner is up for the Golden Glove, Akeem Garcia looks for his second award in the Player of the Year category, Chrisnovic N’Sa is up for the Best Canadian U-21 Player and bench boss Stephen Hart is a nominee for Coach of the Year.
